New Travel Regulations for Ukrainians Abroad Amid War

One significant change is the extension of foreign passport validity, allowing Ukrainians to continue their travels. Who Can Travel with an Expired Foreign Passport?

According to the Ukrainian government’s decision, due to the war, the validity of foreign passports can be extended for five years, making them legitimate for international travel. It is advisable to visit the Ukrainian consulate and obtain a relevant stamp for this. Under Ukrainian law, the extension of a passport is possible:

• no earlier than two months before its expiration date;
• the extension is made by a special marking in the existing passport, extending its validity for another five years.

However, not all EU countries accept extended passports. For those who want to avoid risks, the best option is to apply for a new foreign passport. Ukrainians abroad can do this at Ukrainian embassies and consulates or at separate units of the State Enterprise «Document» operating in some European countries (Poland, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Germany, Spain, Italy) and Turkey.
