Fedorov's Quote: "I want to announce a new service in Diia that will not only be useful for veterans but also popular among the general public. This is the "Firearm Permit". I hope we will launch it this month as it is currently in beta testing".
Details: This will be a comprehensive service allowing users to submit applications for permits to store, carry, and purchase firearms through Diia. Additionally, users can obtain the necessary document to present when needed.
"There will be no need to carry other permitting documents. Just the document in Diia with a QR code, as always", the minister said, adding that this service will be available to all Ukrainians.
It is worth noting that shortly after the launch of the Unified Firearm Register by the Ministry of Internal Affairs in 2023, it was reported that permits could already be obtained through Diia.
The page "Obtaining a Firearm Permit" has been operational in Diia since 2023 and remains active.
"Ukrainian Truth" has sent a request to the Ministry of Digital Transformation for comments on the old and new services regarding firearm permits.
Background:
- On June 23, 2023, the Unified Firearm Register was launched in Ukraine, allowing citizens to obtain firearm permits without visiting the National Police, by submitting documents through the "Unified Citizen Window" or in a gun shop. It was also reported that firearm permits could be obtained in Diia.
- According to the National Police, by the end of October 2024, over 1.4 million units of firearms were registered in Ukraine.
- In August 2024, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Bohdan Drapiatyi stated that Ukrainians may possess between 2 and 5 million units of unregistered firearms.
