Startup Innovations Unveiled at Kyiv City Accelerator
Sixteen startups showcased their projects at the City Accelerator Demo Day. The event was organized by ISE Corporate Accelerator from ISE Group as part of the Urban Development Program aimed at supporting industry, entrepreneurship, and the consumer market for 2024–2025, as reported by Valentyn Mondriivskyi, Deputy Head of the Kyiv City State Administration (KCSA).
A key initiative of the city is the establishment of its own startup accelerator. The City Accelerator is a pilot program that connects startups with municipal enterprises in Kyiv to seek modern technological solutions for urban infrastructure. Its main goal is to develop a corporate accelerator aimed at addressing the challenges faced by the capital's utility services.
“Kyiv ranks 5th in the StartupBlink ranking for the development of the innovation ecosystem in Eastern Europe. This confirms the capital's status as a hub of innovation and startups, where we actively implement digital technologies to improve the lives of residents,” emphasized Valentyn Mondriivskyi.
According to him, startups have immense potential for collaboration with municipal enterprises, allowing for the realization of projects that enhance city management quality.
During his speech, Valentyn Mondriivskyi mentioned his visit to Washington in September 2024.
“Meetings with representatives of the World Bank and other partners enable us to bring the best international practices to Kyiv. Today we are already implementing projects on energy efficiency and digitalization of services across various sectors,” he noted.
Special attention was given to the development of the Kyiv Digital mobile application.
“Kyiv Digital was born four years ago primarily as a transport service. During the full-scale war, its concept changed, focusing on saving lives and coordinating actions. Today, this application has become a unified digital tool that is convenient for residents and a hallmark for Kyiv authorities,” stated Petro Olenych, Deputy Head of the KCSA for digital development, transformations, and digitalization.
The City Accelerator program focuses on collaboration with municipal enterprises, particularly those providing critical city infrastructure, including “Kyivenergo”, “Kyivkomunservis”, “Kyiv Metro”, “PLESO”, “SPECIAL HOUSING FUND”, and the “Kyiv City Blood Center” among others.
During the Demo Day, a startup competition took place on topics such as energy efficiency, housing and communal services, environmental initiatives, transport and mobility, digital services, and smart city infrastructure management.
“Only close collaboration between startups, municipal enterprises, and the city will allow us to implement innovative projects that will make Kyiv more comfortable and modern for its residents,” concluded Valentyn Mondriivskyi.
