Enhancing Accessibility in Kyiv: New Initiatives
According to new initiatives, in 2025 Kyiv will implement accessibility measures at more than 700 sites. This is reported by the press service of the KCSA, citing Kyivavtodor.
The capital repairs of each site will be conducted comprehensively: upgrading roads, sidewalks, pedestrian crossings, lighting, and communications, while also developing bike infrastructure.
Special attention will be given to creating a barrier-free environment, which includes lowering curbs, establishing tactile navigation, ramps, and installing elevators. Representatives of public organizations advocating for the interests of visually impaired individuals and wheelchair users will be involved in the inspection of these implementations.
Moreover, one of the main approaches to repairs remains the linear principle, which entails modernizing not only major transport arteries and junctions but also adjacent streets. The plans for 2025 include the renovation of nearly 50 sites.
The creation of a barrier-free and safe environment, particularly in transport infrastructure facilities, is a systematic effort by urban services, forming part of the Action Plan for creating a barrier-free space in Kyiv, approved by the mayor Vitali Klitschko. This document outlines specific measures aimed at gradually making Kyiv accessible to all, as well as identifying executors and effectiveness indicators.
