Launch of a New Project for Ukraine's Museums

The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the commencement of an experimental project — the Register of Ukraine's Museum Collections. This innovative digital system will consolidate information about all museum artifacts in the country, ensuring their accounting, preservation, and protection. This will lead to greater transparency and control over all processes. 
“Every museum will have its own account and free access to a unified interface. The digital register will enable monitoring, inventorying, and controlling the movement of museum valuables within Ukraine and abroad. It will provide data about museum collections and information for the search and return of stolen or lost items. Thanks to this register, we can accelerate the implementation of various projects, including evacuation. This is a vital step in preserving our cultural heritage,” emphasized Ukraine's Vice Prime Minister for Humanitarian Policy, Tetiana Berezhna.
The decision is essential for organizing processes related to the collection, preservation, protection, and processing of information about museum items and collections that belong to the state. 
The Register will allow for monitoring, inventorying, and controlling the movement of museum valuables, as well as providing tools for searching and returning stolen or lost exhibits. Additionally, the system will offer convenient and secure access to data on museum collections.

The Register will enable:

• the digital documentation of each museum item;
• the tracking of exhibit movements within Ukraine and abroad;
• swift responses to cases of missing or stolen cultural valuables;
• the creation of a database for the return of lost museum items;
• the formation of analytics regarding the status of museum collections.

The experimental project will last up to two years. During this period, technical solutions will be tested, the interaction procedures of the Register with other electronic systems will be established, and the range of users will be defined.
The creation of the Register is an important step towards preserving Ukraine's Museum Fund and enhancing the role of museums in shaping contemporary Ukrainian culture.
