Dangerous Souvenirs: Man Arrested for Attempting to Send Ammunition

The Kyiv police have arrested a 40-year-old man from Ternopil who attempted to send dangerous items as souvenirs. An explosive package detonated at a sorting center during inspection. A criminal investigation has been initiated.
Last night in the Solomyansky district of the capital, an explosion occurred during the inspection of a package at the "Ukrposhta" sorting center. Five individuals were injured: postal and customs employees.
At the scene, investigators, bomb experts, and police dog handlers discovered remnants of shells. The sender was identified as a 40-year-old resident of Ternopil. Law enforcement, in collaboration with customs officials, found another explosive package in the sorting center.
Kyiv police, in cooperation with Ternopil police, arrested the man at his residence in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. During a search of his apartment, additional ammunition was confiscated.
It was preliminarily established that the man had crafted souvenirs from ammunition, engraving them, and sent them via postal services.
Kyiv police have opened a criminal case under Part 1 of Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – illegal handling of weapons. The penalty for this offense may reach seven years imprisonment.
The police remind: ammunition is not a souvenir and its storage is dangerous!
