Former Prosecutor to Face Trial for Fatal DUI Accident
A former prosecutor is set to stand trial for causing a deadly traffic accident while intoxicated. The Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office has submitted an indictment to the Holosiivskyi District Court of Kyiv against the former prosecutor, accused of a DUI accident that resulted in the death of a 61-year-old woman.
Investigations revealed that on the evening of July 19, 2025, the accused drove into a pedestrian area on Velyka Vasylkivska Street and struck a woman walking on the sidewalk. The victim succumbed to her injuries. The driver attempted to flee the scene of the accident but was apprehended. A blood test showed a high level of alcohol.
He is charged with violating traffic safety rules, specifically driving under the influence of alcohol, which led to the victim's death, and knowingly leaving the scene without assisting the victim, who was in a life-threatening condition due to her helplessness, thereby putting her in danger (part 1 of article 135, part 3 of article 286-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The pre-trial investigation was conducted by investigators from the National Police in Kyiv under the procedural guidance of the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office.
