Law enforcement officials have apprehended an individual who falsely reported a bomb threat at an administrative building. Now, for his «joke», he faces serious consequences.
In July of this year, an anonymous call was received by Kyiv police from a man claiming that explosives had been planted in the building of the Darnytsia District Court.
Emergency response teams, including investigators and bomb disposal experts, promptly arrived on scene to thoroughly search the premises and surrounding areas. Fortunately, no hazardous items were found.
Authorities were able to identify the hoaxer and took him into custody. The suspect, a 36-year-old man from Kyiv, had a prior criminal record for drug offenses. He was unable to explain his motives for the act.
Subsequently, investigators from the Darnytsia police department charged him under Part 1 of Article 259 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – knowingly making a false report about an impending explosion that poses a threat to life or leads to serious consequences.
The Darnytsia District Court has since found him guilty and sentenced him to three years of imprisonment.
