Driver Conflict Leads to Explosion in Kyiv
The incident took place at a transport company parking lot in the Darnytsia district of Kyiv. Around 6 AM, one driver threw a hand grenade «F-1» towards another taxi that was departing for its route. Thankfully, no one was injured. The perpetrator could face up to seven years in prison.
The director of the passenger transportation company called the emergency line «102» to report the incident. He stated that one of the employees threw an explosive device toward the taxi, resulting in an explosion.
Law enforcement, including investigative teams and bomb disposal units, arrived at the scene. They apprehended the culprit and seized parts of the «F-1» grenade.
The offender was identified as a 59-year-old local resident with a history of criminal offenses. He had been living temporarily in Kyiv and worked as a driver for a private transport company. He justified his actions by claiming he wanted to intimidate a colleague with whom he had an ongoing conflict.
Fortunately, there were no injuries from the explosion, but the taxi sustained mechanical damage.
Investigators, under the guidance of the Darnytsia District Prosecutor's Office, have charged the offender under part 4 of article 296 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – hooliganism with the use of an item specially adapted for causing bodily harm and part 1 of article 263 – illegal handling of military supplies.
The pre-trial investigation has concluded, and the indictment has been sent to court. The articles carry a penalty of up to seven years of imprisonment.
