New Insights into Fatal Traffic Accidents in Kyiv
Prosecutors have conducted an audit of all criminal cases related to fatal traffic accidents and serious incidents that spanned several years. As a result of the review, seven drivers have been charged. Among them is a 47-year-old Tesla driver, whose violation of traffic rules led to the death of a police officer. This was reported by the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office.
The deadly accident occurred on March 2, 2023, at the intersection of Obolonsky Avenue, where Tesla, Audi A7, and Toyota Camry collided. As a result of the crash, the driver and passenger of the Audi A7 sustained severe injuries, and the 22-year-old passenger died in the hospital.
Both the victim and the deceased were police employees. To ensure an objective investigation, the case was assigned to the TDBR investigators in Kyiv.
Over 10 forensic examinations were conducted in the criminal proceedings. Based on their results, the actions of the Tesla driver were classified under Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code — violating traffic safety rules resulting in the victim's death. The article prescribes a penalty of 3 to 8 years in prison.
It has been established that the man, while driving the Tesla, disregarded traffic signals and collided at high speed with the Audi A7, which in turn, in an uncontrolled state, crashed into the Toyota Camry. Consequently, the electric car driver received a notification of suspicion.
