Arrest of Arsonist in Kyiv: New Developments
In the capital of Ukraine, law enforcement officials apprehended a man who, under the direction of Russian intelligence, set fire to a local resident's vehicle, mistakenly believing it to be military property. He was promised $2000 for the act but never received the payment. The police quickly detained the arsonist, facing up to ten years in prison.
Recently, the police received a report about a Ford vehicle fire on a street in the Solomianskyi district. Emergency services promptly extinguished the fire, and investigators arrived to document the crime.
Authorities discovered that the vehicle was ignited using a flammable liquid, and during the search, they identified the 22-year-old perpetrator living nearby.
Investigators learned that the man had received a message from a 'curator' in the aggressor country via a messenger app, proposing to set vehicles on fire for monetary reward. Tempted by easy money, he agreed to carry out the criminal orders and ignited the vehicle, which the client believed belonged to a serviceman. However, the promised $2000 never materialized.
The suspect was detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine, and prosecutors informed him of charges under part 2 of Article 194 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — intentional damage to property by arson. The penalty for this offense can include up to ten years of imprisonment.
