Criminal Steals from Acquaintance During Her Absence
The offender noticed a set of keys drop from his acquaintance's bag and decided to take advantage of the situation. While the woman was away, he broke into her apartment and stole valuable items.
In April, a resident of the Lisovy Massif reported to the Kyiv police about a break-in at her apartment. The police dispatched an investigative team to the scene.
Officers found out that the victim had lost her keys to the residence, which the offender then used. Thanks to prompt actions, law enforcement quickly identified and apprehended the suspect – a 38-year-old man with a previous criminal record for theft. He had seen the keys fall from the bag and, while the woman was not home, stole her mobile phone, drill, and monitor.
Investigators, under the supervision of the Desnyansky District Prosecutor's Office, informed the suspect of the charges under part 4 of article 185 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – theft committed repeatedly and involving intrusion into a dwelling during martial law.
By the verdict of the Desnyansky District Court of Kyiv, the offender was found guilty of the charged crime and sentenced to five years of imprisonment. Additionally, based on article 71 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, the unserved portion of a previous sentence was added, meaning he will spend five years and three months in prison.
