Friendly Gathering Turns Violent with Serious Injuries

A violent incident in Kyiv left one man severely injured during a conflict that arose while consuming alcoholic beverages. The perpetrator faces up to eight years in prison.
Recently, police received a report about an injured man lying in a residential building's entrance, asking for help. Officers and medical personnel quickly arrived at the scene. 
It was discovered that the victim, a 64-year-old local resident, had been visiting a 45-year-old friend. The two men were drinking together when a verbal altercation broke out. The homeowner began to physically assault his guest and subsequently used a metal object to strike him on the head.
The victim was hospitalized with multiple serious injuries and is currently in critical condition. 
The police arrested the suspect under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine and charged him with Part 1 of Article 121 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — intentional serious bodily harm.
According to the charges, the man could face up to eight years in prison. Investigators have asked the court to keep the suspect in custody during the investigation.
