Law enforcement officers in Kyiv have apprehended a man who was facilitating the illegal exit of military conscripts to European Union countries.
The investigative department of the Pechersk police, under the supervision of the prosecutor's office, uncovered the illegal activities of a 35-year-old resident of the capital, who helped conscripted men leave the country.
The perpetrator sought out potential clients among conscripts and promised them an easy border crossing for a fee of $12,000. His accomplices were responsible for the actual smuggling, and their identities are currently being established.
During the operation, investigators, along with criminal police and the Security Service of Ukraine, detained the organizer while he was receiving money from one of the conscripts.
The man has been charged under part 3 of Article 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – organizing the illegal transportation of individuals across the state border, committed by a group for selfish motives. The penalty could be up to nine years in prison with property confiscation.
