Tax Service Employees Arrested for Data Leak

Two employees of the State Tax Service were arrested for collecting and transferring confidential data from an internal database. They passed this information to an acquaintance who sold it for $100–300. Law enforcement gathered sufficient evidence to initiate criminal proceedings, and the case has been sent to court. The suspects face up to six years in prison.
This crime was uncovered in May with the participation of investigators from Kyiv police and the Security Service of Ukraine, as well as the support of the Head of the State Tax Service of Ukraine. 
The investigation revealed that two young employees, aged 24 and 25, had access to a closed database containing confidential information about citizens. They collected information regarding individuals and legal entities, copied it, and sent it to a 30-year-old acquaintance who sold it for $100-300.
This acquaintance sought “clients” on a closed Russian hacker forum on the “DarkNet.” He accepted payment only in cryptocurrency, and the proceeds were distributed among all participants.
During searches at the suspects' residences, police seized computers, mobile devices, and flash drives that confirm their illegal activities. The arrests were made under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
Investigators, under the procedural guidance of the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office, informed all three participants of the suspicion under Part 3 of Article 362 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — unauthorized copying of information processed in automated systems that led to a leak, committed by individuals with access to this information in conspiracy with a group of individuals. The suspects face up to six years in prison.
