Establishment of Astrobiology Laboratory in Ukraine

The National Taras Shevchenko University of Kyiv is set to establish an astrobiology laboratory as part of the educational and scientific center «Institute of Biology and Medicine». This initiative will serve as the foundation for the creation of an Astrobiology Center, as announced by university officials.
The initiative was inspired by the visit of Professor Charles Cockell, director of the UK Center for Astrobiology. The project is being implemented with the support of British partners and aims to develop a new interdisciplinary approach that integrates biology, astronomy, geology, astrophysics, and other sciences.
Participants of the meeting emphasized that the future Astrobiology Center will be a platform for international collaboration, new research, and educational programs that can engage talented youth and unveil opportunities for Ukraine in the field of space technology.

Astrobiology is the science that studies the origin and evolution of life on other planets in the universe.
