Proposal to Name the Square on Prorizna Street
An unnamed square located on Prorizna Street in the Shevchenkivskyi district of Kyiv is proposed to be named «Musical» in order to preserve historical heritage and promote the city’s musical culture. This information was reported by the Kyiv City Council.
It is noted that the initiative has been supported by the permanent commission of the Kyiv City Council on culture, tourism, and public communications. According to the chair of the commission, Kyiv City Council member («UDAR») Victoria Mukha, last year the charitable foundation «Mission of Intellectual Initiatives» approached the Mayor of Kyiv, Vitali Klitschko, with the proposal to name the square.
After approval by the Naming Commission, the decision project was submitted for public discussion and electronic voting via the «Kyiv Digital» application.
«Prorizna Street has always been a cultural landmark of the city. It has housed the philharmonic, music salons, editorial offices of artistic publications, educational institutions, and cultural organizations. Today, it is essential to preserve symbols that affirm Kyiv's cultural identity,» emphasized Victoria Mukha. She added that this decision is symbolic in a year when Kyiv officially applied for the status of UNESCO City of Music.
