Fatal Traffic Accident in Kyiv: 67-Year-Old Driver Under Investigation
The Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office has announced that a 67-year-old woman is suspected of causing a death due to a traffic accident resulting from a breach of road safety rules. The deadly incident occurred on August 26 on Svitlytskoho Street in Kyiv. It has been established that the woman, driving a «Hyundai IX35», failed to yield and collided with the driver of an electric tricycle. The cyclist was traveling on the main road of an uncontrolled intersection.
As a result of the collision, the 76-year-old tricycle driver sustained injuries that led to his death at the scene. The actions of the driver are classified under part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which pertains to violations of traffic safety rules leading to the death of a victim. The penalty for this offense includes imprisonment for a term of three to eight years and the possible deprivation of the right to drive for up to three years. The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by the National Police of Kyiv under the procedural guidance of the city prosecutor's office.
According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
