Russian Spy Arrested in Kyiv for Collecting Defense Information
Ukrainian Security Service agents have uncovered another individual working for Russian intelligence. According to the investigation, the woman was gathering information about the security measures of the Defense Forces' administrative buildings in the capital. She was apprehended while conducting reconnaissance near the Main Directorate of the National Guard. Her task was to prepare a layout of checkpoints and parking areas around the defense facility.
The investigation revealed that the spy was also collecting data about the military recruitment centers in various districts of Kyiv. Intelligence suggests that the enemy planned to use this information for preparing terrorist attacks and airstrikes on the Ukrainian capital. It has been established that the 36-year-old woman was recruited by the FSB through an acquaintance from the temporarily occupied Crimea. She hoped for “evacuation” to Russia through third countries upon completing the enemy's tasks.
The SBU thwarted the occupiers' plans and their accomplice. During a search, agents seized a smartphone used by the woman to communicate with her FSB handler. She has been informed of suspicion under part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (state treason committed in a state of war). The suspect is currently in custody and faces life imprisonment with asset confiscation. The operations were conducted under the procedural guidance of the Office of the Prosecutor General.
