Lars Klingbeil's Visit to Kyiv: Germany's Commitment to Ukraine
On Monday, Lars Klingbeil, the Vice Chancellor of Germany, made an unannounced visit to Kyiv.
This was reported by Reuters.
Upon arrival, he stated that Vladimir Putin must understand that Germany's support for Ukraine will not wane.
"Putin should not have any illusions that Germany's support for Ukraine could fade," said Klingbeil, leader of the Social Democratic Party, a junior partner in Chancellor Friedrich Merz's coalition government.
"On the contrary: we remain the second-largest partner for Ukraine globally and the largest in Europe. Ukraine can continue to rely on Germany," Klingbeil asserted.
He emphasized the need for Ukraine to be involved in peace negotiations, highlighting that a ceasefire and reliable security guarantees are essential for lasting peace.
"To this end, we are closely coordinating our actions on an international level," he stated.
It is worth noting that earlier, Klingbeil did not support Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder's call to strip all Ukrainian refugees of social benefits.
Klingbeil also justified the significant increase in Germany's military spending, asserting that it is necessary to counter the threat posed by the Russian ruler.
