Scandal Over Renovation of Sports School in Kyiv
Due to improper oversight of the renovation work at the children’s sports school «Kozak», conducted by a specialist from a municipal enterprise, the Kyiv budget suffered considerable financial losses.
Kyiv police, supported by the SBU and under the supervision of the Podil District Prosecutor's Office, uncovered the crime. The investigation revealed that at the end of 2024, an agreement was made between the school's director and a construction firm for the renovation.
To ensure quality control of the work, an engineer from one of the municipal enterprises was brought in.
After the renovation was completed, approximately 7.2 million hryvnias were paid to the contractor from the city budget. However, investigators found that the actual cost of the restoration and materials did not match the reported documentation, and prices were deliberately inflated.
The technical oversight contractor, responsible for ensuring compliance with standards, failed to notice discrepancies. As a result, according to forensic conclusions, the damage to the city budget exceeded 740,000 hryvnias.
Investigators have notified the suspect of charges under Part 2 of Article 367 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – official negligence causing serious consequences. The penalty for this article includes imprisonment for up to five years, along with a ban on holding certain positions or engaging in specific activities for up to three years.
It should be noted that the former director of the children’s sports school «Kozak» was previously suspected of embezzling funds due to abuse of his official position during the repairs.
