A Kyiv resident posed as a devoted partner, swindling 350,000 hryvnias from a military widow. Prosecutors from the Sviatoshyn District Prosecutor's Office have charged a 37-year-old man who unlawfully obtained these funds through fraud and extortion.
In August 2024, the suspect met a 43-year-old woman and learned that she was receiving government support due to her husband's death. After several months of dating, he began to share tales of his potential mobilization and the risk of death. Manipulating her emotions, he convinced her to give him 220,000 hryvnias, and after she refused further requests, he threatened her into handing over an additional 130,000 hryvnias.
Under the law, such actions can lead to a sentence of up to 12 years in prison with property confiscation.
