New Insights on Stray Animals in Kyiv
For the first time, detailed information about areas designated for dog walking in Kyiv has been released, alongside data on the capture, sterilization, and vaccination of stray animals.
The Unified State Web Portal of Open Data has published two new datasets related to animal care:
1) Information on dog walking zones, detailing the location of parks, the name of the area manager, operating hours, fencing availability, and other important features for training animals;
2) Data on the capture, sterilization, and identification of stray animals, including their ID numbers from microchips, species, breed, gender, color, and medical procedures like vaccinations and sterilizations, as well as the location and date of capture/release.
«The publication of data on stray animals is an essential tool for transparent accounting and public oversight of sterilization and vaccination efforts. Moreover, this data will provide insights into the number of stray animals in the city and serve as a foundation for further analysis,» stated Serhiy Saburov, acting director of the Environmental Protection and Climate Change Adaptation Department of the Kyiv City State Administration.
Currently, the dataset contains information on 4,947 stray animals.
«The presence of designated areas for dog walking is a critical component of urban infrastructure. They foster a new culture of interaction between humans and animals in the city and enhance the comfort level in the daily lives of Kyiv residents,» added Serhiy Saburov.
The datasets have been prepared by the Environmental Protection and Climate Change Adaptation Department in collaboration with the Kyiv City Veterinary Medicine Hospital, coordinated by the Information Policy and Public Information Access Department of the Kyiv City Administration.
