Tragic Death of a Girl in a Kyiv Hospital

A tragic incident occurred in a Kyiv hospital where a 10-year-old girl passed away while preparing for surgery. The Kyiv police have opened a criminal case. Preliminary reports indicate that about six months ago, the child suffered a broken arm, requiring surgical intervention to secure the fracture. Recently, she sustained another injury, necessitating a repeat operation.
Yesterday, while having her cast removed in the Obolon district, the young patient began to feel unwell. Doctors administered several medications to stabilize her condition, yet her health continued to deteriorate, and despite nearly three hours of resuscitation efforts, the girl died.
Investigators, juvenile inspectors, and a forensic expert were present at the scene. Currently, a series of examinations are underway to determine the cause of death and the quality of medical services provided.
The preliminary investigation is being conducted under part 2 of Article 140 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — improper performance of professional duties by medical staff. The article's sanction provides for up to three years of imprisonment.
