Remembering Stanislav Filipenko: A Circus Legend
On August 6, the National Circus of Ukraine announced the passing of Stanislav Bakhstasovych Filipenko — a renowned circus performer and educator who devoted his entire life to the art he loved. He was 87 years old.
Stanislav Filipenko was born on July 8, 1938. He began his career in circus arts in 1956, right after finishing school. For 26 years, he worked as an artist in the "Derzhtsirk" system, mastering several complex genres — from juggling and acrobatics to equilibristics and animal training. He performed with leading troupes in Ukraine and abroad, including in the inaugural program of the Kyiv State Circus titled "For You, Kyivans".
In 1983, Stanislav joined the people's circus "Youth of Kyiv", where he initially worked as a tutor and later became the head of the troupe. His students remember him as a wise mentor who could find an approach to every child and ignite their interest in the circus. Thanks to his efforts, "Youth of Kyiv" became one of the most successful amateur circus collectives in Ukraine, achieving victories at numerous international and national festivals.
Filipenko's educational activities produced hundreds of talented artists who now perform on stages in Ukraine, Europe, Canada, and the USA. Four of his students have worked in the world-famous circus "Du Soleil", and in total, over 20 dynasties of artists emerged from his studio.
For the last 15 years, he also taught at the Kyiv Municipal Academy of Variety and Circus Arts while simultaneously managing the "Youth of Kyiv".
For his contributions to cultural development, Stanislav Filipenko received numerous awards, including the Artistic Prize "Kyiv" in the field of circus arts and honorary diplomas from the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine and other organizations.
The farewell ceremony for the artist will take place at Baikove Cemetery. Details of the ceremony will be announced later.
Condolences to the family...
