Arrest of Criminal Group in Currency Exchange Heist
Law enforcement in Kyiv has apprehended a criminal group connected to a significant robbery. The members face up to twelve years in prison along with asset confiscation.
The organizer is a 46-year-old man with a previous conviction for a serious crime. He recruited three accomplices, including a 51-year-old from the region and two Kyiv residents aged 36 and 43.
Investigators found that the criminals spent a year plotting their scheme and tracking transport routes. They were aware that large sums of money were stored in the trunk, so they prepared a special hole for access to the currency.
On the day of the crime, they blocked the office of the currency exchange and stole a bag containing 8 million UAH and 165,000 euros, totaling around 15 million UAH in equivalent.
Police operatives detained the organizer, who has already been charged. The investigation is ongoing, and three other members of the group have also been charged with theft committed by prior agreement with penetration into a storage facility.
The court has set a preventive measure of detention for all detainees, with bail set at 9 million UAH for the organizer and between 3 to 5 million UAH for the accomplices.
