Tribute to the Legendary Composer
A farewell ceremony for the famous composer Igor Poklad was held at the National Philharmonic, as reported by a Ukrinform correspondent.
Many friends and colleagues, with whom the composer had collaborated over the years, attended the event.
Alexander Zlotnik, a national artist of Ukraine, considers Igor Poklad one of the most talented melody creators in the country.
«His music was always bright and memorable. He created numerous masterpieces starting from the 1960s, including the song «Beloved» with lyrics by Igor Barakh, as well as collaborations with many prominent Ukrainian poets. His artistic legacy is enormous, and his music will remain with us forever», - noted Zlotnik.
Singer Pavel Zibrov also expressed deep admiration for Poklad's work, referring to him as «the musical treasure of Ukrainian land».
«He is a true melodist, a rarity in our time. His songs will leave a mark in the hearts of generations, and I am confident that young artists will continue to perform his music», - added Zibrov.
Yuri Rybchynsky, a Hero of Ukraine and poet, reminisced about meeting Igor Poklad back in 1966, which marked the beginning of their fruitful collaboration. Over the years, they created numerous hits of Ukrainian pop music.
«Despite the challenges, we remained friends and shared interests like billiards and chess», - Rybchynsky noted.
The composer's wife, Svitlana Poklad, shared that her husband had two favorite songs - «Mom, the evening is fading» and «Smile, my fate». She also mentioned his dream of staging the rock opera «King Herod».
«He always said he wanted to see this performance. Unfortunately, he did not live to see that moment», - Svitlana added.
Although in 2013, the Crimean Academic Ukrainian Musical Theater fulfilled this dream, the opera has yet to be performed on any stage in the capital.
«We hoped it would be staged at least once in a capital theater, but unfortunately. I believe we will realize this project, and he will see it from above», - she promised.
As reported, Igor Poklad passed away at the age of 84 after a long illness.
Igor Poklad was a prominent Ukrainian composer and opera master, a Hero of Ukraine, a laureate of the Shevchenko Prize, and a national artist of Ukraine.
His famous works include "Beloved", "Two Wings", "The Enchanted Violin", and many more.
In August 2024, President Volodymyr Zelensky awarded Igor Poklad the title of "National Legend of Ukraine".
