Veterans Overcoming: A Story of Resilience

Two veterans of the GUR of Ukraine, Taras Prots from the "KRAKEN" unit and Serhiy Shikun from the Active Actions Department, both severely injured in combat, successfully completed one of the toughest races in the world — the Spartan Ultra World Championship held in Morzine, French Alps. They traversed 52 kilometers of mountainous terrain, overcoming over 60 obstacles and an elevation gain of more than 2800 meters. The challenge took them 9.5 hours to complete. Both participants bear combat injuries and amputations but continue to actively serve Ukraine, exemplifying the unbreakable spirit of Ukrainian warriors.

“The experience was wonderful. We feel exhausted, but in reality, there’s nothing too ‘extra’ to feel. There was no thought of leaving the course because we have a mission, a goal — and we must achieve it,” — shares Taras Prots.

“It was quite a strong challenge, but we overcame it, and that’s amazing. It’s all about character, the will to live, the desire to be unconquered, to be resilient. For ourselves, and then for others,” — explains Serhiy Shikun about his motivation.

The participation of GUR veterans in the Spartan Ultra World Championship is part of a campaign to raise 1 million UAH as part of the Limitless project for the rehabilitation of GUR veterans who have lost limbs due to injuries.
