On Kenfield Mountain, near Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, two firefighters were killed during the fight against a wildfire. Subsequently, police discovered a man's body with a firearm.

The incident occurred during the day when firefighters were attempting to extinguish flames at Kenfield Mountain, a popular hiking destination.
According to Kootenai County Sheriff Bob Norris, rescuers and police came under sniper fire from an individual using high-powered rifles, targeting the firefighters. The assailant was well-prepared and skilled at concealment.
Later, the SWAT team found a man’s body with a handgun nearby. Authorities do not rule out the possibility that the fire was deliberately set to lure rescuers into a trap.
At the start of the shooting, firefighters pleaded for help after two of them were shot. One firefighter reported that they were hiding behind a fire truck, expressing concerns that the fire might have been intentionally started.
The wildfire is still ongoing, and residents are advised to monitor updates and be prepared for possible evacuation.
