Arrest of Enemy Agent in Ukraine

Ukrainian law enforcement has apprehended a 33-year-old man acting on behalf of enemy intelligence. To weaken the Ukrainian defenses, he set fire to five military vehicles in Kyiv and was preparing for another audacious crime – the assassination of a Ukrainian serviceman.

Detectives from the criminal investigation department, in cooperation with police officers and the Security Service of Ukraine, uncovered the hostile agent. It was revealed that he arrived in Ukraine from occupied Crimea in 2021 and settled in Ivano-Frankivsk, where he "lay low" awaiting instructions from his Russian handlers. Later, he moved to Kyiv, where he started his subversive activities.

The enemy services tasked him with igniting military vehicles in the capital to undermine the Ukrainian defenders. Consequently, he carried out the arson of five military cars in Kyiv. One of the destroyed vehicles belonged to a Hero of Ukraine. He was apprehended by police during the final arson attempt.

Authorities discovered that after carrying out the arsons, the agent received a new instruction – to track down and eliminate a high-ranking official of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The enemy service promised to extract him to the territory of the Russian Federation to avoid responsibility.

Following the coordinates provided by his handler, he retrieved a firearm with ammunition from a hideout and began preparing for the assassination.

Thanks to prompt response from law enforcement, the suspect was detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine, and material evidence of his criminal activities was seized.

The suspect has been informed of the suspicion under Article 114-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (Obstruction of lawful activities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other military formations during a special period). The court has chosen a preventive measure – detention. The sanction of the article provides for up to eight years of imprisonment.
