Launch of the New Ukrainian Translation of Asterix
The popular French comic book has been translated by 18-year-old Anna-Maria Balandina.
On Thursday, June 19, at 3:00 PM, the presentation of the first Ukrainian translation of the adventures of Asterix and Obelix titled “Asterix from Gaul” will be held at the T.G. Shevchenko Central Library for Children in Kyiv (Brestskyi Ave, 25-A). This is reported by the press service of the Kyiv City State Administration.
Asterix has long been one of the most translated comics in the world. Ukrainian is now the 120th language into which these legendary characters have been translated, thanks to the French publishing house “Albert René” that supported the publication of Asterix in Ukrainian.
The translation was done by the youngest translator in the history of the publication: 18-year-old Anna-Maria Balandina, who is a first-year student at the Sorbonne University in Paris.
This bold publishing project was made possible by Rostyslav Sherstiuk, a co-founder of the Asterix Readers Club in Ukraine and president of Saturn Data International.
“The publication of this book is particularly relevant in the current context, where the spirit of resistance and refusal to submit to oppression is changing circumstances,” said Celeste Surug, managing director of the publishing house “Albert René.”
The comic book in Ukrainian has been published by “Pinzel,” which specializes in translated fiction and illustrated literature.
