Starmer added that discussions on new measures against Russia will conclude at the summit in Alberta, and these sanctions should aim to reduce Russia's energy revenues and financing for its illegal war.
“The fact is, Russia does not hold all the cards,” he stated.
In response to questions about the lack of specifics, a Downing Street representative explained that the G7 summit has just begun, making it premature to reveal details before the official announcement.
One of the key topics at the talks in Canada will likely be the discussion of lowering the price cap on Russian oil.
The European Commission is currently proposing to set this cap at $45 per barrel, while the existing limit, established in December 2022, is $60.
