Bridge Collapse in India: Casualties and Rescue Efforts Underway

On Sunday, June 15, at least two individuals lost their lives, and 32 others were injured following the collapse of an iron bridge in a popular tourist destination in western India's Maharashtra state. Many tourists were on the bridge at the time of the incident.

The Chief Minister of the state, Devendra Fadnavis, stated that at least six of the injured were hospitalized in critical condition. Local media reported that a significant number of tourists were present on the bridge when it unexpectedly collapsed.

Fadnavis also mentioned that six people had been rescued. An intensive search operation is currently ongoing, as there are concerns that some individuals may have been swept away by the river's current.

The incident occurred in the Kundamala area of Pune district. Heavy rains had lashed the region in recent days, causing the local river to overflow. However, it was noted that there was no rain at the time of the bridge's collapse in this popular picnic area.

Investigations into the cause of the disaster are currently underway. Emergency and rescue services are on site.
