The administration of the National Sanctuary of St. Sophia informs about its temporary closure. At present, the sanctuary is not accepting visitors and is not conducting tours.
According to official announcements on social media, on June 13 (Friday), the territory of the sanctuary will be closed to visitors for technical reasons.
The administration apologizes for any inconvenience and appreciates your understanding.
It is important to note that as a result of a missile strike that occurred on the night of June 10, the historical site sustained some damage. The shockwave affected the cornice of the central apse on the eastern facade of St. Sophia Cathedral, which is part of the UNESCO World Heritage List. This information was confirmed by the Ministry of Culture.
Experts from the sanctuary, together with police, conducted an inspection of the building's condition.
