Kellogg's words: "So Ukrainians need to understand that this is one of those situations that can change over time. If you agree to a ceasefire at your current positions, the land you control is yours at this moment."
Details: He cited examples from the Baltic states post-World War II and the reunification of Germany, noting that political realities can change.
Kellogg mentioned that Ukraine seems ready for a temporary demilitarized zone: Ukrainian forces could withdraw 15 km, as could Russian forces. This would create a 30-kilometer zone free of combat, monitored by a coalition of "decisive" military forces.
Kellogg's statement: "They are prepared, for a certain period, to create a demilitarized zone. In fact, they said: we will withdraw 15 km, and you Russians will also withdraw 15 km. Thus, a controlled 30-kilometer zone is established, allowing for monitoring of any violations.
If this ceasefire can be maintained for 30 days – I genuinely believe this – then it could be extended. As a military person, I can say that it is very hard to restart a conflict after a ceasefire. And I don't think they will go to war again."
