Grandmother Faces Trial for Grandson's Murder
A 63-year-old woman in the Kyiv region is set to face trial for the alleged murder of her newborn grandson. She could face up to 15 years in prison.
This information has been reported by the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Kyiv region and the Kyiv Regional Prosecutor's Office.
According to law enforcement, in November 2024, the grandmother was at home with the infant who was only one week old.
“While alone with the baby, she struck the child on the head and body with a wooden chair. Afterward, she moved the boy to the bedroom and placed him in the crib, where he died from his injuries,” the prosecutor's office stated.
Investigators revealed that the woman was under the influence of alcohol.
The prosecutors have submitted an indictment against the grandmother for the intentional murder of a minor child, committed with particular cruelty (paragraphs 2, 4 of part 2 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). She faces up to 15 years in prison.
Currently, the accused is in custody without the possibility of bail.
