Young Athlete from Lviv Sets New Record
A 5-year-old gymnast from Lviv, Regina Abramova, has established a new Ukrainian record previously held only by adults – "Longest duration holding the body in the position of 'vertical inverted hang on rings'".
Her time was 5 minutes and 52 seconds, as reported by the head of the National Register of Records of Ukraine, Lana Vetrova.
"It is considered that this exercise is technically very challenging for children and requires not only excellent physical training but also strong character. However, we know that records are set by those who dare to achieve the impossible," remarked Vetrova.
Regina began practicing gymnastics at the age of 4 and has already completed the 2nd youth category program, preparing for the 1st.
The girl trains 6 days a week, spending 5-6 hours each day on her practice.
"As her coach told me, while all the other kids run home after gymnastics, Regina always tries to practice a little longer. If she struggles with an exercise, she doesn't leave the gym until she achieves the result," Vetrova shared.
According to the Lviv Regional State Administration, at the age of 2.5, Regina also began running and is now a participant and prizewinner in more than 15 competitions.
It is worth noting that in Kyiv region, a 7-year-old boy with Down syndrome set a swimming record, completing 50 meters in the pool in less than 3 minutes.
