Innovations in Education: Teens in AI Hackathon Returns to Ukraine

The second national stage of the international Teens in AI hackathon took place in Ukraine, encompassing 97 countries.
Ten teams of teenagers developed innovative solutions demonstrating how artificial intelligence can tackle global challenges — from debunking medical myths to combating stereotypes and enhancing educational access. Teenagers from all over Ukraine participated in the hackathon, from Lviv to Kharkiv.
«Artificial intelligence is already our reality, not just a future concept. This technology is integrating into various sectors, helping to solve complex issues in defense, education, medicine, and governance. It is essential not just to observe but to actively create innovations in Ukraine. The Teens in AI hackathon is an opportunity for our youth to realize themselves and be part of the AI revolution», emphasized Deputy Prime Minister Mykhailo Fedorov.
Students presented projects aimed at predicting epidemics, enhancing access to education in remote communities, providing mental health support for students, and converting text data for visually impaired individuals.
In the week leading up to the hackathon, participants attended workshops and lectures, gaining insights from experts in artificial intelligence, programming, and other relevant fields.
«The hackathon once again proved that participants are not just generating ideas but creating products aimed at improving educational quality and addressing socially significant issues. The winners impressed with their depth of approach, integrating elements of gender equality and combating misinformation. It is particularly gratifying to see solutions utilizing the “All-Ukrainian Online School” initiative, which can achieve a new level of personalization thanks to AI. All these projects demonstrate how deeply youth understand the challenges of the modern world», remarked Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Dmytro Zavgorodniy.
The following teams emerged as winners:
- HARBOUR SEALS from the «Lyceum of New Learning Technologies» in Kropyvnytskyi. Their project Equilla helps detect gender discrimination and misinformation in social media posts, providing alternative, gender-neutral comments.
- PL_KPI from the KPI Polytechnic Lyceum. The team created the EmoPuzzle interactive AI learning platform for children with autism, which helps users understand emotions and express feelings.
- Inferno from the «Scientific Change» Lyceum in Kyiv. The Pure Mind platform assists in creating notes and tests based on videos from the «All-Ukrainian Online School» with personalization features.
The Equilla project will compete in the international stage of the hackathon, where teams from 97 countries will participate.
The event is organized by the Ministry of Digital Transformation, the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, and the Lviv IT Cluster with the support of the IT company TechMagic.
