Ukraine's Historic Gold at Indoor European Athletics Championships

Today, March 8th, the final of the European Indoor Athletics Championships in men's high jump took place, where Ukrainian jumper Oleg Doroshchuk claimed the gold medal by clearing a height of 2.34 meters.

This marks Ukraine's first-ever gold in high jump at the European Indoor Championships. Oleg also set a new personal best, surpassing his previous record of 2.32 meters.

Meanwhile, his compatriot Dmytro Nikitin finished in 5th place with a height of 2.26 meters.

The silver medal went to Czech athlete Jan Steffela, who cleared 2.29 meters. The bronze medal was awarded to Italian Matteo Sioli, who also achieved a height of 2.29 meters, but the Czech used fewer attempts.

As known, during the qualification round, athletes cleared the bar set at 2.23 meters, while Vadym Kravchuk was unable to advance to the finals.

This was Doroshchuk's first appearance in the final of the European Indoor Athletics Championships. Nikitin, on the other hand, competed for the second time for medals at the indoor European championships, having finished 5th previously in 2021 with a height of 2.23 m.

It is also noteworthy that yesterday, Yaroslav Maguchikh qualified for the final of the women's high jump, achieving the quickest qualification round of her career.
