Education Amidst War: New Challenges and Opportunities
The Department of Education and Science of the Kyiv City State Administration, in collaboration with the Educational Agency of Kyiv, has unveiled the documentary film «Education During War», highlighting the educational sector's efforts in the capital during these trying times. The premiere took place at the Boris Grinchenko Kyiv University during the final board meeting.
«We are proud of how Kyiv's educators managed to adapt the educational process amidst missile attacks, power outages, and heating shortages. We are currently working together to create a modern, energy-independent, and safe education system that is ready for any challenges. This film reflects our city, our resilience, and serves as a symbol of gratitude to every teacher who makes the impossible possible every day», said Valentyn Mondryivskyi, Deputy Head of the Kyiv City State Administration.
Since the onset of the Russian invasion, 156 educational institutions in Kyiv have been damaged. The film captures the touching stories of educators who defended their homeland, worked in shelters, evacuated children, sewed uniforms, prepared food, and taught students even during active combat.
The 45-minute film is a narrative about life and work during wartime, the formation of a unique experience in safety and pedagogy, and the new level of responsibility of the educational community.
A special segment of the film is dedicated to the memory of Badri Lolashvili, the fallen director of the Kyiv Educational Agency. He defended Ukraine in the 72nd Brigade of the «Black Zaporizhians» back in 2014. After the full-scale war began, Badri rejoined the 72nd Brigade to protect Kyiv, and he was killed on March 13, 2022. His name has been assigned to the Kyiv Professional Art Design College by the Kyiv City Council.
