Corruption Scheme Discovered at NAAS: Case Details
In the capital, an attempt to engage in corruption was uncovered involving two individuals trying to influence the appointment of a director for a state enterprise under the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences of Ukraine. The preliminary investigation has concluded, and the suspects face up to five years in prison.
The criminals were arrested by investigators from the Shevchenkivskyi police department in June this year as a result of a joint operation with the Security Service of Ukraine.
According to the head of the investigative unit, Mykola Habinet, the suspects convinced a Kyiv resident of their connections with the leadership of the academy:
«They offered him a managerial position for $500,000. If he agreed, we would ensure a favorable decision regarding his appointment. The perpetrators were apprehended at the scene during the money transfer».
Investigators, under the procedural guidance of the prosecutor's office, charged the suspects under articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine regarding abuse of influence. During the investigation, the suspects remained in custody.
The investigation has now concluded, and the case materials have been sent to court. The accused face up to five years of imprisonment.
